2018 is the 25th year for the Beagle Club of Queensland and our first walk in this anniversary year was a resounding success.
The walk was held at Centenary Lakes in Caboolture. This is a beautiful walk around the lakes, through a small rainforest and river foreshore. It is only a comparatively short walk for summer of around 2.5kms. This makes it a relaxing walk that is not too hot.
Being first walk for the year, we are always hopeful of a reasonable turnout but the number were completely unexpected. By the beginning of the walk we had 86 Beagles and two honorary Beagles come along for the enjoyment.
Probably the most overwhelming part of the walk was having people come from far and wide to join in the fun. Apart from the great local contingent (I think we had every Beagle on the Sunshine Coast turn up), we had people come from the Gold Coast, Laidley and Logan. We even had a number of Beagles and their wonderful owners come from as far as Agnes Waters (near the town of 1770).
We were also honoured to have Michelle and Shane Piercy – our Hervey Bay regional reps – come down to join in the fun. It was overwhelming to have so many people come from far and wide to enjoy the morning.
As part of the walk at Centenary Lakes, we stop for a play in the off leash park. It’s a reasonable size off leash park but was quite packed with the number of Beagles. Still they all had a wonderful time running, sniffing and enjoying the company of other Beagles as only Beagles can.
A great sight on the morning was the Beagles who were along for their first walk. Some had not experienced a pack before and were a little overwhelmed at first but after a few sniffs and wags of tails, they settled in very well.
At the end of the walk, everyone returned for a great morning tea. Thank you to everyone who brought along some food for everyone to enjoy. Thanks also to all those who donated for the morning tea and drinks and who bought tickets in the $50 board. Donations go towards our rehoming service.
Thank you to everyone who came along for the morning and enjoyed a wonderful first walk in our Silver Anniversary year.
